It is 80 years since Dr Gustav Dalen signed the patent for the Aga cooker and this week Aga`s 80th birthday celebrations culminated in a `birthday party` held at Enginuity, the newest museum at The Coalbrookdale Centre, Shropshire, home of the Aga.
Amongst the guests were long serving employees together with Aga Distributors, representing England, France, Holland, Ireland and America.
The upbeat programme, introduced by William McGrath, Chief Executive, culminated in the presentation of The Aga Lifetime Achievement Awards to four individuals, for services to Aga. These individuals were Aga distributor Tim Kentish who has been involved in selling Agas since 1949; Hazel Jordan who worked for the Aga company since 1952 and who still continues to promote Aga in her Aga demonstrations and through her book `A Lifetime of Aga`; Alan Bishop who joined the Aga company in 1960 and has risen through the ranks to his current position as Operations Director and Mary Berry author of over 30 cook books and broadcaster, who has been associated with Aga for 25 years. The award itself was specially commissioned and was made up of a solid silver Aga badge set on a glass crystal engraved stand.
The birthday guests were also treated to anecdotes from Tim James, who has just written the book "Aga - The Story of A Kitchen Classic". He gave the audience an insight into what enjoyment he had researching the book and told of the dedication of the people involved with the manufacture, selling and owning this design icon.
William McGrath, Chief Executive of the Aga Foodservice Group said, "It was a superb event gathering together a cumulative wealth of over 3000 years of Aga experience."
